CULTURAL TOURS

KURISA MOYA’S VILLAGE HOME STAYS – A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE OF SOTHO LIFE AND CULTURE

Kurisa Moya offers a unique experience - a Sotho Village Home-stay.  You are welcomed into the home of families living in the Ga-Malahlela Village near Kurisa Moya or the Mafefe Village near the Wolkberg.  Ga-Malahlela is set in bushveld plains surrounded by granite outcrops.

Mafefe Village is set amongst spectacular mountain scenery in a bushveld setting.  A clear mountain river runs from the mountain pass through the village.  Ga-Malahlela has amazing views over the fields of maize back to the mountains beyond.  These modern Sotho villages still follows the cultural traditions of the Sotho people.  The chief is still well-respected and weddings or funerals are big community affairs.

In this beautiful natural setting, in a modern, rural village, you will be guided by an experienced guide into the fascinating world of Sotho Culture.  Visit the graves of the chiefs, the cannibal caves, the sacred Baobab grove and hear about Chief Sekukune and the legacy of the Sotho Chiefs.

A homestead in Mafefevillage Mafefe village is in a beautiful mountainous area
The drivetoMafefe village is Spectacular Towering mountains dominate the scenery at Mafefe

As you settle into the rhythm of village life, the cow bells and the rhythmic pumping of water or the chopping of firewood blend with the exuberant voices of kids playing soccer or of women discussing the day’s events.  The wafting smell of cooking fires promises delicious treats to come.

You will help ‘your’ family with the daily chores of collecting wood and water, herding the cows and goats and preparing the family meal.  After you have enjoyed your traditional Sotho meal, you can sit around the campfire and hear the Sotho myths and legends, still relevant to the modern villagers.

This fascinating look into real South African village life is an opportunity few tourists get to have.  It will enrich you and leave you with the knowledge that you have truly experienced Africa.

Speak to Lisa or David about organizing a day trip or an overnight stay with your welcoming village hosts.

Growth Centre treat

The Growth Centre is a unique sanctuary, set in tranquil mountain woodland above Stanford
Lake – a far cry from the stress and superficiality of every-day existence. Here one can
explore many pathways leading to spiritual awareness and growth. The centre originally
housed "Footprints" Pre-Primary School, founded by Colleen Ballenden in 1977, and was filled
with little feet taking their first magical steps along the pathway of life. It is still a centre of
learning and searching, but now people of all ages are drawn to journey in new ways. The
mystery and magic woven by the children still echoes in the Centre, but that has now
expanded to embrace holistic healing.

The Growth Centre offers the following healing therapies:

*REFLEXOLOGY & OTHER THERAPIES:

Reflexology (Foot Relaxation Therapy), Body massage, Reiki, Aura Cleansing, Counseling,
Intuitive Card Readings, Foot readings, Indian Head Massage, Discussion groups, Talks, 1-day
meditation retreats, Bach flower Remedies, Journey work, Holistic Health Remedies.

Business groups, too, use the Centre as an informal facility. Many visitors come from far and
wide, drawn by the gentle ambience of the area. There is a selection of library books available
for those visitors who simply want to sit and read. Come and visit – take the fairy walk
through the natural forest, absorb the tranquil atmosphere, read in peace, reflect on you
precious time….have a cup of tea!
A PEACEFUL SANCTUARY!
