TIME FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS IN THE FARMHOUSE

Originally inhabited by foresters and still infused with history, a stay in the comfortable Farmhouse has a restorative and rejuvenating effect. In this peaceful setting, the stresses of daily living are easily forgotten as you reconnect with family and friends. It has amazing sunset views from its hilltop location and is surrounded by trees and a large garden.

The five en-suite bedrooms offer a spacious, private option for a family or group of friends since the Farmhouse is booked out to one group only. The large living and dining area with atmospheric fireplaces and candelabras, a family-sized kitchen and the wrap-around verandah are perfect for socialising or just relaxing.

Built in 1937, the Farmhouse has been lovingly restored to its original splendour with high ceilings, spacious living areas and old family photos on the long passage walls. Here you can step back in time and enjoy conversation around the kitchen table or play boardgames in front of the fireplace. Try out the magical "blue bathroom" where you shower in warm sunlight under an accacia tree, looking out onto the tree ferns and terraced gardens. Relax on comfy chairs on the spacious stoep in hidden, ivy-clad corners and simply absorb the mesmerising views or enjoy a sociable time around the braai fire under a million stars while bushbabies and Wood Owls call into the night.

Practicalities:

  • The homely kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering although breakfast, lunch or dinner can be brought to your kitchen hot and ready to eat (book meals with our chef at least a week in advance).
  • The Farmhouse is delightfully off-the-grid, and there are a gas fridge and large chest freezer, 6-plate stove (with an oven) and solar or gas hot-water geysers, as well as solar, candle and gas lighting.  Bring torches to go owl-spotting.
  • The Farmhouse is serviced daily and linen and towels are provided.
  • There is a weber-braai and a sociable braai area in the garden. A complimentary basket of Black Wattle firewood is provided each day and bags of firewood are available for sale.  Bring charcoal if you want a hot coal.

Kurisa Moya nature Lodge, Magoebaskloof

“We had a marvellous time and David and Grace were fantastic in caring for our every need. We so enjoyed our walk with David through those glorious trees - the birds were almost incidental because it is such an extraordinary experience to be up close to those forest giants. The meals which Grace provided were exceptional both in quality and presentation, served with grace by Grace, and dining by candlelight was a very special extra. We were sad not to stay longer, but hope we can return one day. Many thanks to you and your great team.”
