Magoebaskloof Lodge

Haven’t you always wanted to stay in a treehouse?  Now is your opportunity to stay in one of the secluded Forest Lodge Cabins, three metres up in the canopy of the magical indigenous forest. There are only two cabins, some distance from each other with a private walkway, so the tranquillity and privacy are incredible. The only sounds you will hear will be of the Narina Trogon calling through the forest or the Bushbaby's haunting cry at night.

The cabin is fully self-contained with a double bed looking out onto ancient trees; a fireplace; a kitchenette with all you need; a bathroom (shower) and private deck with a Weber braai. Spend time watching the Black-fronted Bush-Shrike from your private deck or simply relax in front of the fire. Tune in to the sounds of nature all around you as you gaze out onto century-old trees with moss-covered branches and forest streams surrounded by ferns, clivias and orchids.

The Forest Lodge cabins are creatively decorated to emphasize the beautiful surroundings. Enormous windows give you panoramic views of the forest canopy, whether you are cooking up a storm, snuggled up by the fireplace or lounging in bed. You can watch the crimson flash of Knysna Turacos (louries) soaring past and may even be lucky enough to see bushpigs or bushbuck passing by in the forest below. Kurisa Moya is delightfully off-the-grid, but with all you need for a comfortable stay – solar lights; a gas stove with an oven and a fridge with a small freezer while hot water is from a gas geezer. Let the peace and tranquility of this ancient forest restore your soul.

  • Each Forest Lodge Cabin sleeps between two and four in one double bed and one or two single beds in the loft room, which overlooks the bedroom below.
  • The cabin is perfect for a couple or family with kids over 8 years because it is accessed by a steep stepladder.
  • The kitchenette is fully equipped for self-catering but breakfast, lunch or dinner can be brought to your kitchen hot and ready to eat (book meals with our chef at least a week in advance).
  •  Kurisa Moya is electricity-free but you lack nothing: there is a gas fridge and freezer, 4-plate stove with an oven and hot-water geysers, as well as solar and gas lighting.  Bring torches along for bushbaby-spotting.
  • The Cabins are serviced daily.
  • There is a weber-braai and a braai area with a complimentary basket of Black Wattle firewood.  Bring charcoal for a hot coal.
